On Wednesday the National Football League announced in a press release that it would be holding a 2017 NFL Kickoff event at Christopher Columbus Park in downtown Boston.

The release reads:

“In the lead up to the 2017 NFL season, all 32 clubs are hosting RANDOM ACTS OF KICKOFF fan experiences, ranging from surprise player and celebrity appearances, to team rallies with free merchandise and game tickets,to events supporting non-profit organizations in the community. Visit NFL.com/Kickoff or follow #KICKOFF2017 and #RANDOMACTSOFKICKOFF on social media to view team activations. These Random Acts of Kickoff will culminate with a free special event at CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS PARK IN BOSTON on Thursday, September 7 at 12:00 PM to commemorate the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS’ SUPER BOWL LI CHAMPIONSHIP. Further details will be released in the days ahead.”

The “live peformance by a special musical guest” is what caught our attention, so we got to thinking who could be the

Bon Jovi – New Jersey rock legends Bon Jovi seem to be the favorite for this event, Jon Bon Jovi is a noted Patriots fan and a close personal friend of Patriots owner Bob Kraft. On top of that, the Patriots have been using Bon Jovi’s song “This Is Our House” as the pump up song after scoring touchdowns at home for a few years now.

Here is Jon enjoying the Patriots AFC Championship Game last year at Gillette Stadium:

Dropkick Murphys – This one is pretty safe bet as well, Boston’s native sons have performed at several major sports events in New England throughout their illustrious career. Highlights include the 2010 Winter Classic, 2007 World Series, and last year’s New England Patriots opening night game at Gillette Stadium. Plus the Murphys have played at NFL Kickoff concerts in the past.

Prophets of Rage – The supergroup made up of members from Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy, and Cyprus Hill will be in town to perform a show at Boston’s Paradise Rock Club on the same day, with the concert starting around noon – it’s not too much of a stretch to think that perhaps the band would be up for a midday set before hand to get the crowd hyped up for the Patriots game.

Aerosmith – Boston’s rock royalty Aerosmith are no strangers to surprise shows in the city, in 2012 the band played a concert from a flatbed truck on Commonwealth Ave. in Boston, right in front of the apartment the band members had lived in when they were getting their start. They’ve also played at NFL Kickoff events as well as past Superbowls so their relationship with the NFL is strong.

Kenny Chesney – The country superstar is also a big Patriots fan and is known for playing his annual Country Fest concert at Gillette Stadium which usually ends up completely selling out the stadium for two nights each August.

These are obviously just some ideas we’ve come up with based on connections to Boston and the New England Patriots, the actual artist performing will be revealed closer to the date of the event.
