Editor’s note: We’re only three full months into 2019, but it has already brought us some exceptional albums. One of those albums is This Land by bluesman guitarist Gary Clark Jr The album’s title track and accompanying music video provides an intense look at the state of racism in current American society from Clark Jr’s standpoint. In a January interview with American Songwriter Clark said: “It’s one of the first songs we learn, and we sing it together. It’s like the Pledge of Allegiance, and when you’re kids, everybody’s together. You don’t see differences until you get older, and older people influence you to think about other people a certain way. I just want to get back to singing that song like we were kids again, you know?” The record debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200. Gary Clark Jr was recently in town for two sold-out shows at House of Blues in Boston, MA.
