Editor’s note: Up and coming ‘anti-pop’ star Tillie was in Boston, MA last night as part of a loaded bill at Great Scott where she performed along with Cherry Pools, glam rocker Micky James, and local band The Press War. Tillie’s ‘anti-pop’ label is one she gave herself and just reading it; you might be wondering what that is. But if you caught her performance at Great Scott Monday night, you would know exactly what it is. Where pop stars are often thought of as polished and rehearsed acts, Tillie displayed vulnerability on the stage, often stopping between songs to explain what the meaning behind each song, even getting candid about breaking free from an abusive relationship in her past to introduce one. It was an intimate, personal experience for those involved who got to see the emotions behind an artist’s music rather than just the songs themselves.
