Editor’s note: Tennessee-born multi-instrumentalist Julien Baker is one of indie rock’s fastest rising stars. At just 25 years old, she released her third studio album Little Oblivions earlier this year. The album was a smashing success, landing a No. 1 spot on the US Folk Albums chart and No.39 on the overall Billboard 200. She recently embarked on a supporting tour of the album that found her visiting Massachusetts for two very different shows. On Friday, September 17th she played to a packed to the gills House of Blues in Boston, a full production show with elaborate lighting and matching uniforms with her band.

On September 18th she played a no-frills show out in Holyoke, MA at the 500 person capacity Gateway City Arts. Accompanied by just the venue’s house lights and bandmates in jeans and t-shirts she played a much more intimate set for the Western MA crowd. We were lucky enough to be on hand for both shows, and have the photo evidence to prove it! With John Hutchings on hand in Boston on the 17th, and Brianna Gately making the trek to Holyoke on the 18th. Check out our galleries below, including some from the shows opener Thao and the Get Down Stay Down who played both shows and are touring in support of their own new album, Temple, out now.
