Hot Gig Alert (08/11): The Revivalists, Band of Horses, The Heavy Heavy in Boston

It’s a Friday night, and in the last whisps of summer, the options for live music are boundless. But tonight screams the perfect evening for New Orleans’s The Revivalists to bring their eight-piece perfection to Boston! And it will all be going down at the Leader Bank Pavilion tonight. For those who haven’t attended a show at this magical venue before, its backdrop of the harbor and flawless views from every corner of the tent are among the best settings to see live music in Boston. The last time I was there was during an all-day practical monsoon. Tonight’s weather forecast is just a little bit different! So, there are no excuses to miss out on a lineup screaming for this venue with Band of Horses and The Heavy Heavy also in tow.

Currently on a co-headlining tour with Band Of Horses, a fellow veteran band, the two bands are sure to balance each other well. But fresh off the release of the Revivalists’ last album, “Pour It Out Into The Night” (June 2nd via Concord Records), it’s sure to be a night filled with some groove-heavy moments and anthemic greats like a track off their newest album, Good Old Days. Into the mix will surely be their smash single from the album Kid. But don’t let these words try to express what it’s like to be at a show from this longtime band. It’s the band’s first album since 2018 and their first show in Boston in quite a moment. The trio of bands taking on the Pavilion tonight is a bill one dreams about and will surely be something you’ll be talking about for a long time.

While the set will indeed include a handful of tracks off the new album, considering the time spent away from Boston, it will be filled with some of your old favorites, too. The band is five albums deep, and their break-out single, “Wish I Knew You,” was all over our radio waves when it came out in 2015. Since then, the band has produced two more original music albums, giving them a wealth of material to choose from for what I’m sure will be a magical night.

And think of it like you’re doing it for a good cause, considering the Pavilion’s partnership with a foundation that The Revivalists created lately called “Rev Causes.”. According to the Pavilion website and the band, “It’s a fund that supports the essential work of organizations dedicated to reviving and investing in our communities, our health, and our environment. By allocating a portion of our ticket sales, and through fan donations and a variety of fundraising efforts, we aim to assist these exciting organizations in building a better future.” So you’re helping a good cause by enjoying a night of grassroots at its finest rock and roll.

Doors open at six, with the music kicking off quickly with The Heavy Heavy. Outdoor shows/venues are something I adore in the summer, and I will soak it up as much as I can, even if sweaters start coming out. Don’t miss this one. It’s one for the books! Tickets can still be grabbed here but are limited. For good reason, of course, this one is very close to selling out, and you don’t want to miss out!
