On a rainy August 21st, people filled the House of Blues in Boston, MA to watch UK singer-songwriter James Bay. His last Boston appearance took place in September of last year when he played a full solo acoustic set due to travel issues with his band. Bay is best known for his hit “Hold Back the River” which was released in 2014. It was a busy night on Lansdowne St. with metal giants Mastodon playing MGM Music Hall and classic rock icons Guns N’ Roses playing at Fenway Park.

Bay started his set with “Best Fake Smile” which was a hit off of his album Chaos and the Calm which was released in 2014. The setlist continued with “Just for Tonight” which was released in 2018 and “Wanderlust.” He went on to talk about how appreciative he was of the fans who still show up despite the rain and the conflicting shows on the block. Bay has such an incredible crowd presence that he constantly would let the crowd sing the lyrics and just sit back in awe. He proves time and time again that he is a natural on stage and that his discography is perfect for a live show.
