LIVE REVIEW + PHOTOS: Lit in Boston, MA (11.10.24)
Lit, the American rock band from Orange County, CA, came and delivered an unforgettable performance at Big Night Live in Boston with a mix of classic hits and energetic new tracks. This show was a must-see for me as I was a huge fan of their seminal album “A Place In The Sun” and had only seen them once before as part of one of Everclear’s Summerland tours. For everyone, I imagine there are bands whose music transcends the radio or albums and stands for something more; melodies and lyrics take you back to a particular time and place. For me, this was one of those albums where the CD was played so many times by college it was scratched and tattered beyond repair. For nostalgic reasons like this, certain bands are about getting to relive a time and place in your life, if only for a fleeting hour or so.
The band started the night with “Kicked Off the Plane” (a song from 2022’s “Taste Like Gold”, which I highly recommend checking out), setting the tone for a high-energy show filled with both deep cuts and fan favorites. As “Four,” the opening track on “A Place in the Sun,” started, the crowd couldn’t help but wake up as those persistent beats took hold and the sharp hook of the guitars took things up a notch. Following that was the infectious “Zip-Lock,” showing off their signature blend of catchy melodies and raw, relatable post-grunge lyrics. “Over My Head” gave the audience a breather, showcasing the band’s ability to balance high-intensity tracks with more reflective moments. The emotional depth of “Everything’s Cool” had the crowd reflecting on the familiar angst that Lit’s music evokes. One of the highlights of the set was “The Last Time Again,” a powerful reminder of the band’s knack for crafting sing-along anthems.
The energy soared with “Lipstick and Bruises” (a personal favorite that exemplified some great atonal harmonies) and the iconic “Miserable,” which got the crowd singing along in full force. The pace didn’t slow down as they hit “Something to Someone” and then a fun surprise—”Sick of Me Too,” giving fans a taste of Lit’s ability to stay connected to their roots while experimenting with new sounds.
A particularly memorable and fun moment was when Butch Walker (from the Marvelous Three) joined the band on stage for a cover of The Cars’ “Let’s Go,” a tribute to the Boston music scene that electrified the room. Butch’s presence added an extra layer of excitement, and the crowd went wild.
Lit closed with their most well-known hit, “My Own Worst Enemy” to cap off an incredible night leaving the crowd shouting for more. It was a nostalgic, energetic, and utterly fun performance that reminded everyone why Lit remains a standout in the pop-punk/post-grunge scene. The band’s show at Big Night Live was a celebration of their career and the enduring power of their music, and it was a reminder of Lit’s staying power and ability to transport fans back to simpler, carefree times.
