In the early 2010s and during Tumblr’s heyday, a few bands defined the moment. The 1975, Arctic Monkeys, Twenty One Pilots and The Neighbourhood. The latter’s 2013 single “Sweater Weather” is still a popular track to this day, ranking as the No. 3 most-streamed song of all time on Spotify. Last year, the group released their fifth studio album, Ultrasound (stylized as (((((ultraSOUND)))))), via Warner and subsequently sold out a North American headlining arena tour.

That tour made its way to New England on Wednesday night, where a capacity crowd at Boston’s TD Garden awaited. The show was a trip through the band’s catalog and a time capsule to that mid-last-decade atmosphere, blending fan fashion with stunning, vibrant visuals. It was The Neighbourhood’s first visit to New England in eight years, with the last being a pair of shows in Boston and New Haven in 2018.

Wednesday’s concert was divided into three sections, each introduced by a short audio clip with an Amazon Alexa-style sound. New tunes like “Good Grief” and “Lovebomb” were blended with classics like “Afraid,” “Cry Baby,” and, of course, “Sweater Weather,” which, in addition to its Spotify success, was also recently a trending sound on TikTok.  The band’s passionate fan base filled the arena in high fashion, inspired by the aforementioned Tumblr-era aesthetic. Phones were out in full force throughout the night, especially during “Sweater Weather,” when the loud singalong bridged the gap between the band’s longtime fans and new fans.

The Neighbourhood will continue their US tour into next week before heading internationally. They’re scheduled for a second leg of US dates in the fall, currently, no New England dates are included in the second leg, but a date at NYC’s Barclay’s Center is slated for late November.

Opening Wednesday’s show was electronic artist Neggy Gemmy (formerly known as Negative Gemini) who also put a new record into the world last year, titled She Comes From Nowhere.
