Fast-rising K-pop group Ampers&One brought their high-energy stage show to The Huntington Theater, as part of the Born To Define Tour. Andears from all over New England made their way to the intimate theater, excited to see the latest K-pop act performing in Boston. The room was packed, with plenty of fun on theme outfits, small signs, and even flags, blending in with the group’s official paenbong (lightstick). A row of beating hearts welcomed fans, pulsing from the back of the stage until the lights promptly came down and the roaring began. Ampers&One took over, kicking off the evening with “GOD” and “What You Talking About”, off their most recent comeback, Definition.
The group’s energy was magnetic from the start, with a contagious vibe that would flow through the audience. After a brief moment for introductions, the intensity went back up, with “Hit Me Up” and “Slide” standing out as some of the night’s most energetic performances. The group would then split into units for the cover stages, with Kamden and Jiho’s cover of Enhypen’s “Fever” making the fans go wild. The next cover would see vocalists Brian and Kyrell bring the mellow vibes with Taylor Swift’s “Love Story”, a fan favorite. The unit stages finished with an explosive performance of One Direction’s “Drag Me Down”, with Siyun, Mackiah, and Seugnmo in charge.
The members took some time to talk to the crowd, going over the different covers, sharing candid details about specific song choices, and what they enjoyed the most. The group’s connection with their audience was palpable and genuine, and they felt comfortable enough to even jump off the stage and run through the aisles, having a great time with Andears. “Broken Heart” and “My Way” lit up the room, with everyone in the room jumping and dancing. After a brief exit, “All Eyes On You” started playing, turning into a fan sing-along until the members returned to finish the song. The encore was one of the most energetic and interactive parts of the show: the boys joined fans in the crowd multiple times, taking photos and sharing their reactions to the performance.
The exhilarating “Crazy Stupid Fun” would close the show, or so fans thought: with the lights on and fans making their way to the exit, the group yelled out from backstage for one final performance, a remix version of “My Way.” As the party came to an end, Andears hearts kept pulsing, much like the welcoming lights on the back of the stage; “we hope this was the best concert of your life”, the group said earlier, and for many, it definitely was.
