LIVE REVIEW + PHOTOS: Aly & Aj in Boston, MA (10.19.25)
Growing up in the 2000s, Aly & Aj were mega stars on Disney Channel. They released albums with hits like “Potential Break Up Song”, “No One”, and “Chemicals React”. They have long since retired from Disney Channel and are rebranding their music image with their current Silver Deliverer Tour.
The Sunday night show at Roadrunner was packed with fans of all ages. Some came looking for nostalgia, and some wanted to see the new album that the sister duo has created. The show opened up with Amanda Shires, who brought a folk-pop feel to the stage with her fiddle, piano, and vocals. It was a stripped-down set, which allowed for songs from her most recent release, Nobody’s Girl. Typically, I’ve seen openers try to bring a more energetic set to hype up the crowd, but it was an interesting change of pace to see an acoustic opening set.
Aly & Aj came out to a roaring and excited crowd. They brought an energy to the stage that was such a sharp contrast from the opening act. With guitars in hand, they started with their first song, “Take Your Time.” They then went into the tour’s title track, “Silver Deliverer”. It was clear the night was to be one of their current music with a sprinkle of nostalgia that we all know and love. Around the middle of the set, they had Amanda Shires come back out for “Blue Dress” and “Lasso”. Shires’s voice was a good contrast to the more pop-sounding voices of Aly & AJ. It was fun to see the three of them together on stage, with the band, guitars, and fiddle.
Nearing the end of the show, the sisters paused to talk about the non-profit they are working with on this tour, Everytown for Gun Safety. Aly spoke about the charity’s meaning and how it impacts everyone. Their goal is to raise $10,000 for the charity by the end of the tour. They performed “Sirens” following the story, which was about their experience in a mass shooting that happened in Sacramento on their first day of tour in 2022.
The band closed out their encore with the smash hit “Potential Breakup Song”. It was one of those songs that, no matter when you learned the lyrics, you’ll never forget. The crowd was singing every word, and it was a great end to the night. Aly & AJ prove that you can shed your childhood image and rebrand without leaving all the nostalgia behind.
