It was the makeup date at City Winery for the original date of October, after a bit of instrumental music from her percussionist and accompanied guitar player, Rickie Lee Jones walked out on stage ready to go. She was wearing a long black dress and red chuck taylor sneakers. The expression in her clothing matched the vibrancy of her performance. The crowd was ready for the show. Jones opened the night with “Weasel and the White Boys Cool.” She showcased her jazz twinged pop style right away. The veteran singer-songwriter has over a dozen albums under her belt and performed a wide variety of hits, including the song that started it all “Chuck E’s in Love,” which of course received a positive reception. Part of her performance included a little beat poetry, telling a story about her trip hitchhiking across the country that ended in arrest. Her flow was flawless and it worked really well in between musical numbers. Rickie Lee Jones was a force not to be reckoned with and that still is true today with 4 decades under her belt.
