Hot Gig Alert (11.02): Irish alt-folk outfit Madra Salach to make US debut in Cambridge, MA

Irish alternative folk group Madra Salach are set to make their United States debut on Monday night in Cambridge, MA. Earlier this month, they shared their latest single, “Ribbon Factory.” The song debuted at No. 3 on the Irish Album Chart and this week they appeared on the British television series Later… with Jools Holland to perform it.

In January, Madra Salach will release their debut album, Gorta, via Island Records UK. Gorta is the Irish word for “hunger” and frontman Paul Banks described the album saying“I usually write from personal experience, I try not to go too big-picture. I can tap into the emotions that way.” What he found, writing, was the private ache kept opening out onto something far older. “The ideas of longing and yearning, all the kinds of hunger, they slot into where we are as 21st century Irish people. The more I’ve thought and written about Irishness, the more I’ve seen how strange a history and a position and a culture we have.”

Madra Salach play The Sinclair (52 Church St., Cambridge, MA, United States 02138) on Monday, November 2nd. The show is all ages, with doors opening at 7 pm and music beginning at 8 pm. Tickets begin at $30.37 and are available – HERE.
