Concerts are fun, but every now and then it’s even more fun to get out of your comfort zone. On Sunday night, we were in attendance at House of Blues on Lansdowne St. for an event of a different kind – Dita Von Teese and the Copper Coupe Burlesque Revue. The show is modern era version of traditional American Burlesque performance art. The show is sponsored by luxury vodka Absolut Elyx and includes special guest performers such as Gia Genevieve, Dirty Martini, Ginger Valentine, Jett Adore, Zelia Rose, and more all in addition to four separate routines performed by Dita Von Teese herself.

The 2018 edition of Von Teese’s touring acts is named after the “Copper Cocktail Coupe” and includes a routine that incorporates the Copper Coupe into the show. Von Teese says of the new act: “It’s always a thrill to create new acts, exploring new ideas that capture the spirit of vintage burlesque that we love, but in ways that haven’t ever been seen before. It was especially enjoyable to infuse elements of Absolut Elyx’s fabulous style with the ideas for the new acts. People know me for my cocktail glass acts, so it was fun to create one around the glamorous and whimsical copper imagery that is instantly recognizable with their brand. I can’t wait for fans to see the new costumes, which are blinding sparkly, thanks to my favorite designers and Swarovski. I’m especially fired up to be bringing my show to cities I’ve never performed before!” 

The entire show runs a little over two hours and is full of humor, elaborate costumes, intricately choreographed performances and plenty of ris·qué entertainment. It’s a revival of the classic American Burlesque shows that were popular in the 19th century, and everything about the night will make you feel like you’ve taken a step back in time. The attendees dress up, the music is vintage, and there’s a strictly enforced no cell phones policy leaving you to enjoy the show in the moment, rather than through a screen.

Dita Von Teese and the Copper Coupe Burlesque Revue is a one of a kind show that you will not find elsewhere and will deliver you a night of entertainment that will get you hooked on American Burlesque.
