Editor’s note: Canadian singer/songwriter Scott Helman kicked off the US leg of his late 2018 tour on Friday night, with a simple but sweet show at Berklee’s Cafe 939. Simple is exactly how Helman likes it, last week in an interview with New England Sounds he told us “I’m a big believer in songs speaking for themselves and making an honest connection with crowds. I don’t include too many bells and whistles.” He delivered on that with a set that gained momentum with each song played, the further into the show Helman got, the more energy he exerted on stage, by the time he wrapped up with the jaunty island tune “PDA” the folks in attendance at the intimate Boylston St. club were in high spirits.
