CATCHING UP WITH: Sleep On It
Editor’s note: Here at New England Sounds, we like to think that we’re able to introduce our readers to some bands they end up loving and following long term. So, we thought it would be fun to catch up with some artists we’ve brought to you in the past, and see how they’re fairing. In March of 2017, we introduced you to a Chicago, IL based pop-punk band called Sleep On It.
At the time, Sleep On It had yet to release a full-length record yet and were on tour supporting Four Year Strong. Colleen Johnson spoke with the band as they told us about their live show and more. Telling us about their songwriting process, band member Jake Marquis told us; “In Sleep On It, we sort of have two approaches. TJ will write a skeleton of a song and bring it to practice and we’ll flesh it out. Or, we’ll write together and build off each other’s ideas. ‘See You Around’ came about that way. I think on the new record, we grew as songwriters. I think we are finally comfortable in our skin as a band, narrowing in our own sound.”
Since we last spoke with them the band have busy, just over a year ago, they released their debut album, Overexposed, and earlier this summer spent time on the VANS Warped Tour gaining even more new fans. They’re back on the road now as a supporting band on the With Confidence / Broadside co-headline tour currently making its way across North America.

In addition to touring, they also recently dropped a brand new single, titled “Disconnected” upon the single’s release, the band talked about the song saying: “The song is very much about wanting to be enough for somebody, especially a girlfriend or boyfriend, but being constantly distracted and self-involved with other things.”
With Patrick Moran on hand to covering With Confidence and Broadside, we also sent along Kelsey Lockhart to make sure we had Sleep On It covered from all angles. You can see an in depth gallery of photos from both photographers below.
