Editor’s note: Something exceptionally rare in live music is a voice that can bring an entire room to a halt. That’s what the folks packed into Great Scott experienced on Friday night when buzzworthy pop singer Miya Folick rolled into town on her first ever national headline tour. Folick dropped her debut album Premonitions just last year and has been turning heads with her live performances ever since. As anyone who has seen a few weekend performances at Great Scott in Allston can attest, it can be a tough room when it’s full, with the back of the room chatter often drifting up to the stage. However, Folick’s booming voice overpowered all of it for most of the night, by the end of the set when she closed with a jaw-dropping rendition of the Joni Mitchell classic “Woodstock” the room was nearly silent as everyone soaked in the performance they were witnessing. Folick brought along Brooklyn based dream pop band Barrie for support, we were in the room to capture both of Friday night’s sets. Check out photos below.
