PHOTOS: Jorja Smith, Kali Uchis in Boston, MA (05.01.19)

Editor’s note: Last Wednesday night Agganis Arena on Comm Ave played host to one of the finer co-headline tours we’ve seen in quite some time. Two of music’s fastest rising young stars, Jorja Smith and Kali Uchis have joined forces for a North American tour in support of their debut records, both of which were released last year. Jorja Smith’s Lost & Found debuted at No. 3 on the UK Albums chart and had earned a silver certification by the end of the year. Meanwhile, over here in the US Kali Uchis’ Isolation debuted to wide critical acclaim, earning a spot on nearly every major “Album of the Year” list. Their joint tour comes as something of a paradigm for a new era of artists supporting artists. Much throughout the ’90s and 00’s both the UK and US press made a lot of “chart battles” and musical feuds between popular artists within in the same genre. That’s something Smith and Uchis are having no part of as they move forward together putting on a show for the ages. 2018 BMA Music Photographer of the Year Emily Gardner was on hand on behalf of New England Sounds to capture some images of a visually stunning show which you can check out below.
