Preston Lydotes shares new single, “The Critic in Me”

In his newest single “The Critic In Me,” Boston-born Preston Lydotes tackles his feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. Yet despite all these difficulties, Lydotes crawls out from the rubble in each chorus to remind his listeners he’s “still the boy who wants to dream”. Mixed by Grammy-winning Ariel Borujow, “The Critic In Me” gives a bittersweet look into Lydotes’ identity as a creative, guiding the listener through his path towards self-acceptance.

“I’ve always been a dreamer, but as an adult, I often feel at odds with my self-doubt.” says Lydotes. He continues “By writing “The Critic In Me”, I hope that fellow self-sabotagers listen and feel less alone. I recorded in my apartment, the Berklee studios, and my childhood home. Ariel Borujow, my Grammy-winning professor, mixed it.”

Lydotes is a local singer-songwriter with a folk-rock edge. The 21-year-old serves as lyricist, producer, engineer, and arranger, putting DIY effort into every part of his project. He has been releasing music independently since 2022 and is currently releasing his sophomore EP as a batch of singles – “The Critic In Me” being the third.
