Hot Gig Alert (3/20): Chuck Ragan brings Love and Lore (and Cory Branan) to Boston

Are you looking for a chance to drink some great wine, or let’s be honest, maybe a glass of whiskey and listen to some serious storytellers? I’ve got the show for you. Chuck Ragan is bringing his latest album, Love and Lore (10/25 via Rise Records), to City Winery in Boston tonight with a familiar face to both City Winery and touring with Chuck, Cory Branan. It is a seriously underrated show you will remember for a long time if you choose to attend, and you’re doing yourself a favor if you do.
This duo has been in action together before, with Branan definitely spending some time on The Revival Tour, founded by Ragan in 2005. I definitely remember seeing acts like Laura Jane Grace, Branan, Dan Andriano take on the Middle East downstairs stage with sets balanced with stories, cameos on each other’s songs. It’s something that you’ll be able to get a small taste of at tonight’s show. While Branan and Ragan are sure to put down some serious tunes tonight to accompany your glass of Pinot Noir, the storytelling is what will surely win you over the most when it comes to the night. City Winery screams storytellers; I was recently able to catch Jon Foreman of Switchfoot and his solo work there; greats like Alejandro Escovedo and Dave Alvin have also charmed and controlled that stage.
And tonight, it’s Chuck’s turn. While he’s toured in recent years with his other act, Hot Water Music, the band he’s led for decades, he’s been performing solo music just as long. Limited tickets are still available for tonight here, but scoop them up quickly and click in for a night of stories, Branan and Ragan’s road-worn beauties of voices, and enjoy a glass of wine or two.
