Roachella made a comeback for its second year last Thursday night, hosted by Evil Eye Artists in collaboration with Get to The Gig Boston. It was one of the many shows the team put together recently, but for this special night at Warehouse XI, four distinct, yet equally great acts: Makeout Palace, Griffin Benton, Jesse Detor, and Asphodel Ivory took the stage.

Makeout Palace is generally hard to miss. As an alternative rock, post-punk, and indie pop band, they frequently bring the noise to the Boston music scene. With Eva Levin on bass and lead vocals, Collin Ratcliff on guitar and backing vocals, Aidan Shapero on drums, and Riley Lepere on tenor saxophone, Makeout Palace opened that night at Roachella. Their set was bold and striking, and fans matched their energy by singing along throughout their set.

Griffin Benton also kept spirits high. Roachella marked an epic start to his upcoming first tour, joined by Erik Dietz on bass, Sarah Psaila on keys, and Evan Calyer on drums. Given all the dancing in the crowd last Thursday night, their performance had a groovy vibe that felt electric. In a Darker Shade, his debut album released last year, sounded just as pristine live.

Jesse Detor had a magnetic presence. Alongside Emma Harner on guitar, Sam Anderson on bass, and Daisy Soper on drums, she lit up the stage with impressive vocals. At one point, Detor said “Something that has personally helped me is connecting with my community,” a moment that captured exactly what brought everyone together beyond just the music.

Ashhodel Ivory brought high energy. Roachella wasn’t complete without its dark electro DJ set, and the crowd showed up with their best moves. Colored lights flashed as everyone danced. Eventually, the night came to a close, but Evil Eye Artists created a night for people to fondly look back on.
