Editor’s note: Boston, MA natives Extreme were back in the New England area recently, for a show at the Mohegan Sun patio. Led by the enigmatic duo of Gary Cherone and Nuno Bettencourt, the band’s heyday came in the early 90’s around their multi-platinum record Pornograffitti.Their success helped Cherone and Bettencourt land massive industry gigs away from Extreme, Cherone spent four years as the lead singer of Van Halen and even recorded an album with them. He recently has also spent time with Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry’s solo outfit The Joe Perry Project. Meanwhile Bettencourt has been in several projects as well, even spending time in Rhianna’s touring band giving him an opportunity to play in the Super Bowl halftime show in 2023. He also just performed at the VMAs as part of a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne with Yungblud, Steven Tyler, and Joe Perry. They do however find time to play a small handful of shows every year with their first love, Extreme, joining with original bassist Pat Badger and current drummer Kevin Figueiredo who has been with the band since 2007. Mike Von Villas was on hand in Connecticut at the end of August to catch one of those performances, check out his photos below.
