Mother Nature had other plans for Thrice, Taking Back Sunday, and Saves The Day’s stop in Worcester on September 26th. A looming nor’easter forced a last-minute venue change from The Palladium Outdoors to the DCU Center, and if anything, the shift worked in everyone’s favor, as the larger indoor space turned into the perfect canvas for a crowd that had energy to spare. Taking Back Sunday, Thrice, and Saves The Day have all been staples of the emo and post-hardcore scenes since the early 2000s, and this run brings them together for the first time as a co-headlining trio, with Taking Back Sunday leading the charge alongside newly rejoined guitarist Fred Mascherino.
Saves The Day opened the night with their melodic brand of emo, which served as a reminder of where so much of this scene’s DNA originated. Thrice followed, bringing a heavier and more technical edge with a setlist built on the intricate, riff-driven music that’s made them one of the genre’s most respected acts for over two decades. Taking Back Sunday closed out the night, and the crowd made it clear they’d been waiting all night for this. Dual vocalists Adam Lazzara and John Nolan traded off with the same chemistry they’ve carried from stage to stage since the beginning, moving through a catalog full of early 2000s classics that the Worcester crowd screamed back word for word… a reminder that some songs don’t fade with time, they just wait for a room like this to bring them back to life.
