Plini brought the An Unnameable Desire Tour to the Paradise Rock Club in Boston on October 20th, with support from Night Verses and Portraits. The Australian guitarist, composer, and producer is touring behind his third full-length album, released in April… a record that stretches his sound in every direction.

Plini’s music is entirely instrumental, so there are no lyrics to lean on. Everything is communicated through feel, and the band did that with remarkable precision on Tuesday night. Intricate time signatures and sudden dynamic shifts carried the set from soft, cinematic passages to surging heaviness. Rhythm guitarist Jake Howsam Lowe, bassist Simon Grove, and drummer Chris Allison each stepped into the spotlight at different points throughout the night, and delivered every single time.

For an artist who describes his process as “just me sitting in a room, tinkering on a guitar,” the live show proved how far those ideas can travel once a full band brings them to life. Boston got to hear that in person, and the entire crowd was glad to be a part of it.
