When Irish singer-songwriter Orla Gartland arrived in Somerville, MA, last week, it marked her first visit to New England in nine years. Her previous visit came when she had only two short EPs in her catalog and had yet to build much of a fan base in the US. This time around, however, Gartland has two full-length albums to choose material from, Woman on the Internet (2021) and her latest release, Everybody Needs a Hero. Originally scheduled to play Cafe 939 in Back Bay, Gartland’s show sold out so quickly that it was upgraded to Arts at the Armory in Somerville, where it also would sell out. Gartland drew equally from both of her two albums, much to the delight of the crowd, who knew every word and even carried the performance during a couple songs that the stage mics failed.
