LIVE REVIEW + PHOTOS: Alter Bridge, Boston, MA (05.10.26)
Orlando, FL-based rock band Alter Bridge made a much-anticipated return to the New England area on Sunday. For the first time in three years, the four-piece band took over Boston’s House of Blues on Lansdowne St., a place Alter Bridge have a rich history with. We wrote about it last time the band was in town, but for a quick refresher, in 2004, after winning a playoff series vs the Los Angeles Angels, members of the Boston Red Sox went directly across the street from Fenway Park to the Avalon, the music venue on the ground that House of Blues now stands, and joined Alter Bridge onstage during their encore to celebrate the victory. The players and band kept in touch for a while, and in 2005, Alter Bridge performed at the Home Run Derby with Johnny Damon of the 2004 World Champion Red Sox.
Flash forward to the present day, and Alter Bridge have headed out on the road in support of their new self-titled studio album. The album came together on a slightly different timeline than most of their previous ones, as members Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall, and Scott Phillips have been busy touring with their other band, Creed.
But the album is out now and doing well; it charted at No. 3 on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart and No. 15 on the Hard Rock Album Sales chart.
Sunday’s set was made up of songs from throughout their career, touching on songs from five of their eight studio albums. From newer songs such as “Playing and Able” and “Silent Divide” to Alter Bridge classics like “Open Your Eyes” and “Blackbird.” The set was a tight, 95 minute production that ran like a well oiled machine, seasoned veterans at this point in their career, Alter Bridge spare no detail.
