Editor’s note: Earlier this year, Japanese Breakfast released her highly acclaimed new album For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women), and in April she kicked off a North American tour supporting the record. The Melancholy Tour is the band’s first tour in three years, following the Jubilee Tour in 2022. The LP is Japanese Breakfast’s highest charting to date, and first to crack the Top 50 of the Billboard 200. Last Wednesday, the tour made its lone New England stop by way of a show at Boston’s MGM Music Hall. Bri Gately was on scene to capture some stunning visuals from Japanese Breakfast’s most ambitious production to date, working with lighting and production director Kat Borderud to create a remarkable experience. Playing in the support slot on this current run is SoCal multi-instrumentalist Ginger Root, who put out his latest record, SHINBANGUMI, last year.
